What is a Mission Statement?
A mission statement is a statement of purpose, by which your Club intends to serve its members. A mission statement describes what the Club does (current capabilities), who it serves (members), and what makes the Club unique (justification for existence).
From 2013 new Victorian Government Legislation requires all Clubs to include a Mission Statement in their Model Rules. It may be useful to print this statement and display it so that all members can be reminded of the main purpose of your Club.
Beyond this requirement, a statement of purpose for a Club has other benefits, principally that if every member of the Club is aware of the the Club's reason for existence, it is a focus point to help Committees and Membership remember what's important. It's your philosophy. The main aim of the Club and it's members. The reason for it's existence. (Surely not just to mow the grass and pick up show jumps)
