Horse Trials

2010 sees a MAJOR review of the Horse Trials Rules

All changes and additions to the rules have been marked with a vertical black line in the right hand margin.

The Horse Trials rule book must be read in conjunction with the Handbook of By-laws; Gear Rules and Dressage Rules. All of which can be downloaded from the links below.

Some changes to note are:

Section E - Combined Test Competitions

This section contains rules which allow clubs to run competitions based around the three phases of Horse Trials including Combined Training, Short Course Combined training, Supercross and Derby competitions

Examination after a fall – Medical fitness

A rider who has a fall from their horse anywhere on the venue during any part of the competition or while warming up MUST have their medical fitness assessed under the rules outlined in the PCAV Handbook of Bylaws 24.1 before taking any further part in the competition.

Also

  •

  • FIRST FALL OF HORSE AND/OR RIDER ANY WHERE ON CROSS COUNTRY COURSE IS ELIMINATION - HT Rule C.10.16 Penalties
  • FIRST FALL OF HORSE AND/OR RIDER IN THE SHOWJUMPING IS ELIMINATION - HT Rule C.11.5 Penalties

Qualifications for State Championships

Have been ammended to include one EA CNC* or FEI CIC*/CCI* . All Qualifying rounds must be without Elimination or incurring more than 60 penalties in the Cross Country- See HT Rule D.6

Rationale: While the height of the EA/FEI qualifications are greater than the corresponding PCAV grades, the technical degree of difficulty is of an equivalent level which is considered to be the more important aspect of the qualification for a State Championship event.

Compulsory veterinary Inspection

All competitors must proceed to the veterinary inspector immediately after the completion of the cross country, under penalty of elimination. The wording "Competitors must not dismount, under penalty of elimination, until instructed to by the veterinary surgeon or steward "has been remove. This is a relic from the FEI rules when competitors had to weigh in at the completion of cross country and serves no purpose other than another way to eliminate riders unnecessarily. If they do not attend the vet check they will be eliminated.
